Akwa Ibom Commissioner Resigns After Governor’s Defection to APC
Dr. Ini Ememobong, Akwa Ibom State’s Commissioner for Information, Strategy, and Special Duties, has stepped down following Governor Umo Eno’s recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a Facebook post, Ememobong announced his resignation, citing the governor’s directive for political appointees not aligning with the APC to resign. He emphasized that his decision was based on personal conviction and a long-standing opposition to the APC's ideology.
While affirming his respect for Governor Eno’s political choice, Ememobong stated that he could not follow the same path. He clarified that there was no conflict between them and expressed deep gratitude for the trust and responsibilities given to him—particularly his role in the Ibom Deep Sea Port project.
He also thanked both Governor Eno and former Governor Udom Emmanuel for the opportunities and support throughout his service. Though acknowledging his decision may not sit well with everyone, Ememobong stood firm in his principles, closing the chapter with appreciation and dignity.
