CAUSES OF HICCUPS
* EATING OR DRINKING TOO QUICKLY: Swallowing air can irritate the diaphragm.
* OVEREATING: A full stomach can press against the diaphragm.
* CARBONATED OR ALCOHOLIC DRINKS: These can cause stomach distension and irritation.
* SUDDEN TEMPERATURE CHANGES: Drinking something very hot or cold can trigger hiccups.
* EMOTIONAL STRESS OR EXCITEMENT: Strong emotions can affect the diaphragm.
* SWALLOWING AIR: Chewing gum or drinking through a straw can lead to hiccups.
* GASTROESOPHAGEAL REFLUX DISEASE (GERD): Acid reflux can irritate the diaphragm.
* NERVE IRRITATION: Irritation of the phrenic or vagus nerves, which control the diaphragm, can lead to persistent hiccups.
* MEDICATIONS: Some drugs, like steroids or sedatives, can trigger hiccups.
* MEDICAL CONDITIONS: Persistent hiccups may be linked to neurological disorders, metabolic imbalances, or organ diseases.
