STAGES OF BREAST CANCER
The stages of breast cancer are classified based on tumor size, lymph node involvement, and metastasis.
* STAGE 0 (CARCINOMA IN SITU):
1. Non-invasive cancer cells in milk ducts or lobules.
2. No spread to surrounding tissue.
* STAGE I (EARLY INVASIVE):
1. Tumor ≤ 2 cm.
2. No lymph node involvement.
3. No distant metastasis.
* STAGE II (LOCALLY ADVANCED):
1. Tumor 2-5 cm.
2. Limited lymph node involvement.
3. No distant metastasis.
* STAGE III (REGIONALLY ADVANCED):
1. Tumor > 5 cm.
2. Extensive lymph node involvement.
3. No distant metastasis.
*STAGE IV (METASTATIC):
1. Cancer spread to distant organs (e.g., lungs, liver, bones).
2. Tumor of any size.
*SUB-STAGES:
- Stage IA: Tumor ≤ 2 cm, no lymph node involvement.
- Stage IB: Tumor ≤ 2 cm, limited lymph node involvement.
- Stage IIA: Tumor 2-5 cm, no lymph node involvement.
- Stage IIB: Tumor 2-5 cm, limited lymph node involvement.
