Kola nut is the seed of the cola tree (Cola acuminata and Cola nitida), native to tropical Africa. 

Here are some things you should know about kola nuts:

- Used as flavoring ingredients in various carbonated soft drinks

- Caffeine-containing nut of evergreen trees of the genus Cola. 

•Contain about 2–4% caffeine and theobromine, tannins, alkaloids, saponins and flavonoids. 

- Stimulate the central nervous system. 

- Chewed in many West African countries, in both private and social settings. 

- Presented to chiefs or guests ceremonially. 

- Used as a remedy for hangovers, intoxication, and diarrhea. 

- Used as a remedy for coughs.
