Tragic End for Port Harcourt Fashion Designer Despite N2m Ransom Payment

In a heartbreaking turn of events, popular Port Harcourt fashion designer, Hope Georgewill, has been found dead after being kidnapped by suspected sea pirates on March 26, 2025, along the Cotton Channel in Rivers State. Despite a ransom payment of N2 million, the abductors still went ahead to kill her.

The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the recovery of her corpse and announced that four of the suspected kidnappers were killed during a gun battle with police operatives. Acting on intelligence, the Anti-Cultism Unit launched a raid on the criminals’ hideout in a creek off the Bonny Waterway on April 3, leading to the deadly shootout.

Several weapons, a speed boat, engines, and Georgewill’s mobile phone (without SIM) were recovered during the operation. The State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, hailed the police effort as a major breakthrough and reaffirmed the command's commitment to wiping out crime across the state’s waterways and communities. Investigations are still ongoing.
