Some Interesting Facts about Christmas

  1. Christmas wasn't always on December 25 but it doesn't matter because we celebrate the reason for the season not the date, which is the birth of #Jesus.
  2. Prince Albert of Germany is credited with initiating the idea of a Christmas tree when he got a tree for his new wife Queen Victoria of England in 1848. Thanks to him.
  3. The idea of leaving cookies or milk at the Christmas tree was first practised by Dutch children where they leave gifts on St. Nicholas' feast day on Dec. 6
  4. Black Friday, or the day after Thanksgiving isn't really the busiest day. The Friday and Saturday before Christmas is! Yes people prepare well for Christmas!!!
  5. Jingle bells wasn't originally a Christmas Carol. It was a song for celebrating Thanksgiving. James Lord Pierpont wrote the song called "One Horse Open Sleigh" in the middle of the 19th century for his church's Thanksgiving concert. It was later re-released for Christmas.
  6. Silent Night is the most recorded song in the world! It's had more than 733 different versions copyrighted since 1978.
  7. Christmas is also a time to be CAREFUL! Christmas decorating sends about 15,000 people to the Emergency room or Intensive Care Unit.
  8. Forget chicken! Ham is the favourite meal during the Christmas season in many countries. In other words, "Ham" is the Christian "Ram". Something strange about those last 2 similar letters. Addictive you might say.
