Residents groan as flood takes over Lagos roads

A viral video showing the current condition of Bank Road in Ikoyi, Lagos, has been circulating online.

Yusuff Lookman, who posted the video as #olayusuff on his X.com handle on Tuesday,

urged the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, to take action and find a permanent solution to the problem depicted in the video.

The video captures the chaotic scene as flood ravages a portion of the Ikoyi residential area.

Responding to Lookman's tweet, Wahab said that there is an ongoing construction of the collector that will receive this rainwater.

According to the commissioner, the project is going on at the Golf Section of Ikoyi Club and almost at the completion stage.

"After completion, we'll move in to clear the drains and then remove all structures obstructing the flow. All these will be done very soon. Thanks for your concern," the commissioner added.

For years, whenever a downpour hits areas like Victoria Island, Lekki, Ikoyi, and Ajah, residents are left frustrated and distraught.
