Knocks Greet Influencer Adeherself's Partnership With EFCC On Sensitisation Of Corpers

Influencer Adedamola Adewale, aka Adeherself, has sparked off outrage on social media following her partnership deal with the Economic and Financial Crime Commission on the sensitisation of corps members on fraud.

The EFCC, in a statement released on their official X, formerly Twitter account, @officialEFCC Friday, described Adewale as a 'strategic stakeholder in the anti-graft war.'

The statement also disclosed that Adewale was a guest speaker at a sensitisation programme held at the National Youth Service Corps orientation camp in Iyana Ipaja, Lagos State on Thursday.

Adewale, at the programme, urged corps members to "Shun any involvement in computer-related frauds."

"There are boundless opportunities on the Internet which you can put to good use and harness for financial upgrades, rather than fraudulent activities and commission of crimes,” she was quoted as saying.

This post has since sparked multiple reactions online as netizens have begun to question the new relationship between the anti-graft agency and Adewale, who was arrested by the EFCC in 2020 for alleged involvement in cybercrimes.

Adewale was arrested and prosecuted alongside four others on a three-count charge of conspiracy to obtain money by pretence, attempt to obtain money by pretence, and retention of proceeds of criminal conduct.

She was re-arraigned in February 2023, where the EFCC accused her and two others of conspiring to obtain $6,000 from one Joseph Rumoro.

The case was adjourned till April.

A quick search on the anti-graft agency's social media handles by our correcpondent provided no further information about the trial.

Reacting to the post by the EFCC, popular social media influencer, Daniel Regha, wrote, "If Naira Marley that smokes weed can be welcomed at the NDLEA, Ade Herself becoming EFCC's Poster Girl shouldn't be surprising.

"It's sad but this is the same country where politicians who encouraged electoral fraud are talking about democracy. Nigeria is a place where evil pays.

@deshysmalls tweeted, "EFCC using Adeherself as their face against Internet Fraud, & NDLEA using Naira Marley to preach against drugs fully encapsulates the Nigerian State. Your act is only deemed illegal if you aren't successful enough at it, make enough money & watch them make an enigma out of you."

Lordcharles01 also tweeted, "Just a few months ago, EFCC re-arraigned Adeherself for fraud. Today EFCC called her a strategic stakeholder in the anti-graft war. EFCC should update us on how things changed suddenly. What's the status of the prosecution? Plea bargain? We need to know."

@Oiza wrote, "I’m beyond shocked to see EFCC portraying Adeherself as a good model Nigerian youths should look up to, knowing the same organisation arrested this same person, more than once, for fraudulent activities. Is Nigeria a comedy show now?"

@Ladylibber also tweeted, "NDLEA - Naira Marley NBA - Portable EFCC - Adeherself Nigeria now openly rewards criminality and disrespect for rule of law. No surprises, look at the president and how he stole the presidency. A drug dealer rewarded with the presidency. A shameless and hypocritical country."

@elonchorch also reacted writing, "Naira Marley for NDLEA Adeherself for EFCC. All these agencies INEC, EFCC, NDLEA, and CSU are trying to show that crime pays. If you do crime well enough, you'll be rewarded handsomely."
