Lagos Clears Restaurant Obstructing Drainages

Lagos Clears Restaurant Obstructing Drainages

The Monitoring, Enforcement and Compliance Department of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment has cleared an illegal structure serving as a restaurant on the drainage setback along Ademola Tokunbo Street, Victoria Island.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a post shared on his X handle on Monday.

Wahab stated that the structure was fabricated using two 20ft imported containers placed on the setback and padded with Plaster of Paris.

He also said that the drainage behind where the containers were placed was sealed with metal sheets and converted to a septic tank.

Wahab wrote, "Officers from the Monitoring Enforcement and Compliance Department of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources #LasgMOE while on enforcement of some infractions in Lekki over the weekend observed the placement of a structure serving as a restaurant on the drainage setback along Ademola Tokunbo Street, Victoria Island.

"The occupiers were served abatement notice, and the structures were marked for removal.

"Earlier today, the containers were removed, and the drainage was cleared."

The move was another one in a series of operations by the state government targeted at removing illegal structures and dislodging the occupants.
